The immune system is crucial in maintaining health by defending the body from external and internal dangers such as viruses, bacteria, parasites, and tumors. In the last ten years, reactivation of the immune system has proven to be a highly effective means of tumor treatment. The discovery of this form of immunotherapy by James P Allison and Tasuku Honjo was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 2018.

The effectiveness of immunotherapy is further increased by the introduction of cell-based immunotherapy of tumors in which cells that have the property of killing tumor cells are developed in the laboratory. Transferring a sufficient number of these executive cells can lead to the complete disappearance of metastatic tumors that no longer respond to other forms of treatment.
