Halvard Bonig

Professor Halvard Bönig, MD

Halvard Bönig attended Medical School in Dusseldorf, London, and Memphis, Tennessee. He is board certified as a pediatrician and transfusionist. His chief scientific interests are translational cell and gene therapy, experimental hematology, and immunology.

Halvard is a Professor of Translational Development of Cell and Gene Therapies at Goethe University, Frankfurt, Germany, as well as an Affiliate Professor of Hematology at the University of Washington in Seattle, Washington, and most recently also, a Visiting Professor of Transfusion Medicine at the University of Ljubljana, Slovenia.

Halvard has published over 200 peer-reviewed research papers and serves on several scientific journals’ editorial boards. He leads a basic research group investigating leukemia stem cell and their interactions with their environment, aiming for leukemia cell eradication, as well as an academic core good manufacturing practice (GMP) unit that develops and manufactures cell and gene therapy medicines for clinical use.
